Co to vlastně je Jamboree?
Jamboree je slovo, které kdysi vymyslel zakladatel skautingu Robert Baden Powell jako označení pro setkání skautů, a to ať národních, nebo mezinárodních. To první celosvětové se konalo v roce 1920 v Anglii a toto v Americe je v pořadí 24.
Název „jamboree“ vymyslel lord Robert Baden-Powell. Údajně je to složenina ze svahilského přátelského pozdravu jambo a slova corroboree, pocházejícího z domorodých australských jazyků, které znamená „slavnostní setkání“. Možných etymologií slova je ale více – dle různých názorů pochází z hindštiny, svahilštiny nebo z jazyků původních obyvatel severní Ameriky.

Letošní Jamboree trvalo od 22. července do 2. srpna. Američani ho pojali především jako přehlídku netradičních a adrenalinových sportů, mezi kterými si účastníci mohli hojně vybírat. Nevýhodou byly dlouhé fronty, které se na mnoha místech tvořily každý den. Kromě sportů zde byl World Point, kde měly zúčastněné státy své EXPO stany, ve kterých představovaly své země, Global Development Village, která se zaměřovala na globální problémy, nebo třeba Suistantability Treehouse, dům ve stromě, ve kterém byla expozice o ekologii a udržitelnosti. A samozřejmě spousta dalších věcí. Každý večer se v některém ze subcampů konaly večerní bashe (tzn. party pod podiem), během akce proběhly také tři velké ceremoniály u hlavního pódia – o tom ale až později 😊
Dostat se na Jamboree není úplně levná záležitost. Já jako IST jsem platil účastnický poplatek asi 900 dolarů, do toho náklady na letenky a pojištění. Přidejte si k tomu dva týdny cestování a dostatečné kapesné a jsme na poměrně astronomické částce.
Aby to ale bylo všechno fér, státy jsou rozděleny do různých cenových skupin. Česká republika, jako země, která není rozvojová a stojí si ekonomicky poměrně dobře, je ve vyšší kategorii a díky tomu, že lidí z Česka zaplatí víc peněz, mohou lidé ze zemí ekonomicky méně silných platit méně peněz a Jamboree si tak dovolit.
Práce na Jamboree
Každý člen IST* si před Jamboree skrz online přihlášku vybíral tři pracovní preference toho, co by chtěl na akci dělat. Já osobně jsem měl v prvních dvou preferencích management sociálních sítí, ale vyšla mi až ta třetí, tedy „Návštěvnická recepce“. Rychle jsem si v hlavě promítl, co by to mohlo znamenat a nabídku odsouhlasil.
* Kromě mladších účastníků na Jamboree potkáte spoustu dospělých účastníků, kteří jsou rozděleni do různých týmů. Nejvíce z nich jsou v IST (International Service Team – mezinárodním servis týmu), dále to jsou Adult leadeři (vedoucí oddílů mladších účastníků), CMT (contingent management team, tedy lidé, kteří stojí v čele národních výprav) a JPT (úzké hlavní organizační jádro Jamboree, tzv. Jamboree Planning Team).
Z české výpravy jsme v týmu návštěvnické recepce dva. Spolu se mnou bude návštěvníky vítat i Křeček (Kačka Černá, originalita přezdívek v Junáku není zrovna valná 😃) Na úvodním týmovém školení jsme teprve zjistili, co bude naše práce obnášet.
Během Jamboree přivítáme přes 17 000 denních návštěvníků v 7 návštěvních dnech. Při nejvytíženějším dni, sobotě 27.7., dorazí až kolem 5 000 tisíc najednou.
Aby toto mohlo probíhat hladce a bez strašlivých front, je celý proces rozdělen na tři fáze:
1) Arrivals – místo, kde návštevníky poprvé vítáme, ptáme se jich, zda mají lístky a podepsaný tzv. „Risk acknowledgment form“ (formulář, ve kterém návštevníci doslova berou na vědomí, že mohou zemřít). Pokud nemají lístky, mohou si je dokoupit, pokud nemají formulář, mohou ho zde dopodepsat. A pak jdou do fronty na security check.
2) Security Check – po vystání fronty (která může trvat od 3 vteřin až třeba po tři hodiny) přijdou návštěvníci do velkého stanu, kde máme bezpečnostní kontrolu, podobnou té na letišti. Sundat kovové věci, projít bránou, když začne pípat, tak se ještě nechat zkontrolovat ručními kontrolory. Jen na batohy nemáme scaner a kontrolujeme je ručně. Mezi zapovězené předměty, které nekompromisně zabavujeme, patří nože, kapesní nože, multifunkční nože, skleněné láhve, cigarety, zapalovače, zbraně, zvířata,… 😃 No dobře, zbraně a zvířata úplně zabavit nemůžeme. V Západní Virginii je legální držet zbraň a brát si ji kdekoliv, tudíž ji nemůžeme jen tak zkonfiskovat – od toho tady máme místní policii, která nám v těchto případech asistuje. A zvíře nikdo nepřinesl, kromě dvou asistenčních psů, kteří měli výjimku.
3) Check-in – předložení lístků, odevzdání risk forms (viz výše), obdržení identifikačních papírových náramků a čekání na kyvadlový autobus do areálu.
A teď pár ne úplně roztřízených postřehů z mé práce:
- Zákaz skleněných láhví s sebou přináší průměrně jedno studené Starbucks kafe každé ráno 😃
- Vstupné na Jamboree je $55 pro dospělého a $25 pro dítě do 12 let. To je vlastně fakt hodně vzhledem k tomu, že návštěvníci mají přístup jen do Summit Centra (hlavní místo v areálu, budiž vysvětleno v dalších článcích) a do Foodhousů (kde platí další težké peníze za jídlo 😃)
- Měl jsem skvělý tým! Asi 9 Angličanů, 2 Češi, 3 Švédi, 3 Holanďani, několik Američanů, 2 skauti z Hong Kongu a další lidé z dalších zemí.
- Mé stanoviště bylo celou dobu na Arrivals, kde jsem rozdával risk forms. Spolu se mnou byli v přední části Santhi (šéfka oblasti, Američanka s indickými kořeny), Švédky Emmie a Carina, Američanka dlouhodobě žijící v Anglii Helen, Angličané Claire a Nigel, Finka dlouhodobě žijící v America Noora. Směsice lidí je obrovská a o tom je Jamboree. Anglicky se rozmlouvám jako nikdy, domlouvám si výlety do Švédska a do Anglie. A jsem opravdu šťastný…
- Každý den je to stejné. Ráno frmol a pak už jen poklidný pokec, kdy občas někoho přivítáme
- Kritický den bylo pondělí 29. 7., kdy přijelo asi o 2000 lidí víc, než jsme očekávali a my měli málo autobusů. Vznikla tak opravdu dlouhá a nehybná fronta…
- Američané jsou fakt milí lidé. Všichni se ptají, odkud jsem, vítají mě v Americe, zajímají se o Prahu. A je na nich vidět, že to fakt není přetvářka…
- Na začátku Jamboree, předtím, než nám začaly návštěvní dny, jsme pomáhali s přijezdy skupin dětských účastníků. Přijel autobus, vybrali jsme formuláře, zkontrolovali, na základě toho dali zelenou či červenou kartu na čelní sklo autobusu a jeli dál. V neděli si beru první ranní směnu (od 5 do 11:30), druhý den naopak poslední večerní (mají totiž přijet kluci). Kluci přijeli, ovšem směna se protahuje až do ranních hodin a ve výsledku trvá asi 13 hodin. To proto, že Američani jaksi zapomněli na variantu, že se některé autobusy zpozdí a nestihnou přijet včas…
Co dodat. Práce to byla ve výsledku fajn. I když jsem chtěl na Jamboree dělat to samé, co na Obroku, tedy sociální sítě, tuto pozici jsem si nakonec opravdu užil 😊
